Dr.  Andrew Juan has been appointed to the Harris County Community Flood Resilience Task Force by Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones. 

He brings nearly 15 years of academic and practical experience in flood mitigation.  

Growing up in Jakarta he became well acquainted with the effects of flooding, sparking his interest in pursuing a career in hydrology. His research topics include radar-based alert systems, watershed conditions, and flood plain analysis. 

Following Hurricane Harvey, Dr. Juan joined the Houston research community in assessing storm impact, leading several projects such as flood mitigation analysis for the City of Friendswood, barge displacement at Greens Bayou, and flood impact analysis at the San Jacinto River Basin. 

Dr. Juan is currently an associate research scientist at the Institute for Disaster Resilient Texas (IDRT), an organization established by the Texas Legislature to deliver critical research on disaster risk reduction, support state agencies with data analytics and decision-making tools, and generate evidence-based solutions to create more resilient Texas Communities.
