Catfish Restocking

Catch them while they last! The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) recently stocked Hart Lake at Pundt Park with 280 channel catfish. Anglers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to visit.

Come prepared with the proper bait to maximize your success. According to TPWD, catfish prefer strong-smelling bait such as nightcrawlers, chicken livers, shrimp, stinkbait, or cut hot dogs.

Fishing is allowed in the pond and lake within Pundt Park, as well as along the banks of Spring Creek accessible from the park property. Late winter and early spring are successful times for catching white bass and crappie, while catfish can be caught year-round. Daily bag limits apply; three catfish are allowed per person. Catfish are stocked in most lakes late April through early November except in August. Additional catfish stocking dates will be posted here.

Anglers will also have opportunities to catch rainbow trout in the winter. TPWD recommends using cheese, kernel corn, nightcrawlers, red wigglers, and meal worms to catch trout. If you’d rather use a lure, try a small inline spinnerbait or a spoon.

Because rainbow trout can only survive during the winter in most parts of Texas, trout stocking in Precinct 4 takes place in January. For a complete trout restocking schedule, please click here
