More programs for toddlers and young children are planned for eight Harris County libraries thanks to a $200,000 donation from the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation and Phillips 66.

The Harris County Public Library will use the donation to convert eight libraries, including Barbara Bush Branch Library, into Family Place Libraries. The specially designed space will feature interactive materials, early literacy kits, games, toys, music and multimedia resources, learning stations, and of course, books.

The donation comes on the heels of a special request made by former First Lady Barbara Bush just weeks prior to her passing to support the Barbara Bush Branch Library that was devastated by Hurricane Harvey.

The Foundation previously donated the $250,000 Curiosity Cruiser mobile library to the Harris County Public Library. Curiosity Cruiser is a state-of-the-art mobile library that provides Houston children with access to books and exciting educational programs that integrate reading with science, math, technology, writing, and the arts.
