A trail segment at Precinct 4’s Collins Park will close for approximately six to eight months beginning Thursday, Jan. 2, to allow the Harris County Flood Control District to implement a bank stabilization project along Cypress Creek.
The $3.5 million project will include repairing the eroded bank, reinforcing the bank with rip rap, and removing exposed pipelines.
The trail segment running from the parking lot near the picnic area to the entrance of the off-road mountain bike trails will be inaccessible while the bank is under construction. Visitors may use the Gourley Trail between Collins Park and Meyer Park and the off-road mountain bike trail on the east side of the park. Guests traveling between the two areas may use the park road as a detour.
Collins Park is a 55-acre facility with five lighted softball fields, four lighted baseball fields, one unlighted soccer field, one sand volleyball court, two playgrounds, a skate park, nature trails, picnic tables, barbecue grills, a restroom, a canoe launch, and limited access to fishing along Cypress Creek.
