Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Offers Holiday Shopping Tips

Planning some last-minute shopping this year?

While the holidays may be the season of giving, it’s also the most common time of year for property crimes.

To improve safety, the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office are teaming up to encourage safety awareness and provide more patrol deputies in retail shopping areas.

To learn more about how to stay safe during the holidays, check out some of the tips below:

•There’s safety in numbers. Try to shop in groups if possible.

•Walk with purpose and pay attention to your surroundings.

•Always have your keys in hand when walking to your vehicle. Before entering your car, scan the interior of your vehicle.

•If you feel uncomfortable about walking to your car alone, request a store security guard to escort you to your vehicle.

•Avoid carrying a purse. If you must, keep it close to your body. Do not resist if someone grabs your purse. Your safety is worth more than the contents of the purse.

•Do not leave valuables and packages in open view inside your vehicle. This is an invitation for thieves.

“By putting more law enforcement boots on the ground, we will be able to take a proactive approach in fighting crime. Deputies will be distributing crime prevention materials to citizens and seeking out the criminal element to protect our communities,” said Constable Mark Herman.
