Maintaining Our Roadways

It’s the start of mowing season and one of the busiest times of year for Precinct 4’s Road & Bridge Department.

From March through December, Precinct 4’s Road & Bridge Department mows along county roads to control weeds, not only for aesthetic purposes, but to improve drainage.

Excessive rain can also lead to erosion, which may result in sinkholes and cracks. Crews work daily to patch potholes, depressions, and cracks before they grow into bigger problems. With regular maintenance, crews can extend the life of roadways before more expensive repairs are needed.

Scorching summer heat and lack of rain may cause other problems, such as dust build-up and loose gravel along roadways. Crews regularly sweep busy roadways to help protect cars from dirt and debris that can ruin paint and slow traffic.

Precinct 4’s regular maintenance projects don’t stop either. Road & Bridge crews still perform concrete and culvert repairs, resurfacing and repaving projects, sign repair or replacement, and trash pick-up as needed. So next time you see one of our guys out working in the heat, give him a wave and let him know he’s appreciated.
