The Mercer Society will debut a new plant line in early 2020 — just in time for the annual March Mart Plant Sale.
More than 200 “Mercer Grown” plants will be available at March Mart, including edibles and pollinator host plants.
TMS, the nonprofit providing financial support to Mercer Botanic Gardens, has hosted the annual March Mart Plant Sale for nearly 20 years. The plant sale proved so popular that the organization added an extra day to the event and kicked off monthly specialty plant sales in 2019.
“We’re going back to our roots,” said Nancy Ackley, the TMS president. “We’re known for our plant sales, and that’s what we do best.”
Mercer Grown plants will be grown on site by TMS staff and experienced volunteers. Many of the plants will come from parent stock at Mercer, and all edibles and pollinator plants will be grown without pesticides.
“Every plant sold will reflect high standards of health, beauty, and value,” said Ackley. “These plants will appeal to gardeners who believe in creating healthier gardens for people and pollinators.”
Proceeds from the plant sales will help fund programs and projects at Mercer. TMS will also focus on funding one major improvement at Mercer each year, whether it’s repairing an existing feature or purchasing a new one.
“This is an exciting time for The Mercer Society,” said Ackley. “Our mission is to bring together plants, people, and opportunities in support of Mercer Botanic Gardens. The plant sales are a great way to accomplish this.”
